Custom Workflow Engine
We are already using your supply chain management solution to track supplies and packages. Could you help us track deceased patients?”
The Office of Decedent Affairs (ODA) of a long-time Syft client—a large, midwestern hospital—came to us with an exceptional request: design a custom workflow engine for our hospital to track deceased patients from pronouncement to funeral parlor. So, we did just that.
“Our processes are complex and time-consuming, and we worry that we might miss a deadline for an autopsy or tissue donation, incorrectly identify or process a patient’s remains, or even lose track of a decedent. There is nothing worse than not having a clear answer for a family member.”
“There are inherent dangers to manual-driven decedent management, particularly since it increases our risk of error, such as losing track of a decedent. We could fall short of compliance requirements, face a lawsuit, experience an accidental contamination, and harm our hospital’s reputation.”
“So many plates are spinning for our small team. I'm constantly calling around to see what the status is on a case. I've got stacks of papers on my desk. And it feels like I spend half my time walking the floors in search of information. Nothing is efficient.”
DECEDeNT Management
From a single view, hospital staff can see all decedents in the system plus their status and locations in order of time-sensitive deadlines.
Chain of custody and action items are tracked and visible for every step in the process, from initial request to final handoff.
A customizable workflow-builder allows a hospital’s Office of Decedent Management–or other teams that manage decedent workflows–to create the appropriate policy-guided steps for requirements unique to each decedent category, asset, and scenario.
Optional integration with EHRs aggregates relevant patient information and auto-completes documentation, which eliminates time-consuming and error-prone data inputs.
A customizable notification system alerts internal and external stakeholders of a decedent’s status as well as hospital policies and guidelines.
A digitized passport is automatically generated for each decedent or asset. The passport is a valuable tool that prevents patient misidentification and other errors at all handoff points, including the handoff between the hospital and funeral home. It also alerts transporters and security personnel of any contagions, like COVID-19.

SYFT Custom solutions
Decedent Management
A large health system asked Syft to develop a tracking and management system for deceased patients. It now enjoys automated workflows that ensure safe, compassionate, and compliant handling of deceased patients.
Lab Supply Management
One hospital client turned to Syft to develop software to track reagents that were arriving at the hospital more frequently than the vendor contract stipulated. Now they have alerts in place to signal shipments and quality assurance that ensure proper patient care.
Cloud Support
Several hospital clients have turned to Syft to help them sunset older technology and move their systems to the cloud. As a service partner, Syft helps clients save time, costs, and resources.
Kanban
One large health system leaned on Syft not only to develop a software solution for replenishing commodity items but also to build the physical structures for a new 2-bin Kanban system which was then deployed in more than 40 clinical areas. Yet another way Syft innovates with intention.
